The term Big Data refers to the combination of mass, structured, semi-structured and unstructured data that are characterised by the three V's rule: data of great variety, coming in ever larger volumes and with greater velocity. More recently, several other "V's" have been added to various descriptions of big data, including veracity, value and variability.
These complex datasets, mostly from new sources, are a wealth of new information for those who manage to exploit them. Big Data is now essential in machine learning, predictive modelling and other advanced analytical applications as well as Artificial Intelligence solutions .
This big data is so large that traditional data processing software simply cannot handle it. But with state-of-the-art software, these large volumes of data can be used to solve problems that have never been solved before.
